CAP 50/70

Petroleum Asphalt Cement

CAP 50/70 is currently the most used in Brazil in asphalt paving services. It is indicated for regions with light to moderate traffic. It is also used for manufacturing asphalt emulsions and has a minimum Softening Point of 46°C. When mixed with stone aggregates and following correct execution, it gives highways and urban roads an excellent surface course.

Technical Specifications

Descrição

Description

arrow

Petroleum Asphalt Cement (CAP) is a viscous liquid, semi-solid or solid, at room temperature, which exhibits thermoplastic behavior, becoming liquid when heated and returning to its original state after cooling. Obtained through various petroleum distillation processes, it is 99% soluble in trichloroethylene.

Petroleum Asphaltic Cement – CAP is produced especially to provide quality and consistency suitable for use in the construction and maintenance of asphalt pavements, as in addition to its binding and waterproofing properties, it has characteristics of flexibility, durability and high resistance to the action of most acids, salts and alkalis.

According to Resolution No. 897 dated 11/18/2022 from ANP – National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels, asphalt for paving is classified based on penetration, using the following nomenclatures:

  • CAP 30 / 45;
  • CAP 80 / 50;
  • CAP 85 / 100;
  • CAP 150 / 200.
Usos

Uses

arrow

Petroleum Asphalt Cement – CAP is used in various types of hot mixtures, such as asphalt concrete, pre-mixed, asphalt sand, surface treatment, and bituminous macadam, in the construction of asphalt layers for both highway and urban pavements.

Aplicação

Application

arrow

Petroleum Asphalt Cement – CAP should not be heated above 177°C to avoid the risk of oxidation and thermal cracking of the binder.

The heating should be done until achieving the appropriate consistency for its application, with the ideal working temperature obtained through the viscosity-temperature relationship.

It should not be applied on rainy days, wet surfaces, and at ambient temperatures below 10°C.

We recommend consulting our Technical Department for technical guidance regarding the use and application of different types of Petroleum Asphalt Cement – CAP.
